Jaba Samushia Attends Events Dedicated to 101st Anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Business

 

Events related to the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and Business were held at Tbilisi State University (TSU). The Rector of TSU, Academician Jaba Samushia, together with the Dean of the Faculty and professors, laid a wreath at the grave of Pilipe Gogichaishvili, one of the founders of the Georgian School of Economics, one of the founders of the University, in the courtyard of the 1st Building of TSU.

In connection with the day of the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and Business, an auditorium named after the famous Georgian economist, Academician Irakli Mikeladze was opened in the 10th Building of TSU on the initiative of Rector Jaba Samushia.

On July 30, 1922, under the leadership of Ivane Javakhishvili and Pilipe Gogichaishvili, the Socio-Economic Faculty of Tbilisi University was opened, which paved the way for the development of economic science and the training of qualified personnel in Georgia.

On the same day, TSU Rector Jaba Samushia opened a scientific student conference dedicated to the memory of Professor Nodar Khaduri, as part of the events marking the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and Business. “The future of the Georgian economy is being developed at Tbilisi State University. In a few years, you will take on the great burden of managing the country’s economy. I want you to remember that you are members of a very big and important school,” Rector Samushia told the students.

He also spoke about Professor Nodar Khaduri’s contribution to the country’s economic development. “Professor Nodar Khaduri was a person who managed Georgia’s finances for four years and made a huge contribution to the country’s development.”

The conference was attended by master and doctoral students of the Faculty of Economics and Business. The topics presented at the conference were related to the economic challenges and achievements in the country, as well as the accumulated experience in the world.

The Faculty of Economics and Business of Tbilisi State University has been in existence for more than a century and remains a leader in the region.

The foundation for the teaching of economics was laid at the Faculty of Philosophy of Tbilisi University, which was opened in 1918. In 1918, based on the project developed by Ivane Javakhishvili and Pilipe Gogichaishvili, the Faculty of Economics was established by the decision of the Council of Professors. The Faculty of Economics was headed by Pilipe Gogichaishvili, Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Leipzig, who is considered the founder of economic science in Georgia.
